The Junior League of Greater Elmira-Corning has been granting funds to organizations in the community for over 70 years.  From the Clemens Center to Community Youth Centers, we’ve put our hearts and our dollars into countless organizations.  Recently the JLGEC proudly made contributions to help form CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Southern Tier Hospice, and the Elmira Parent Child Resource Center.

Each year in the Spring, the Grants Committee Solicits Community Grant applications from targeted areas determined by the JLGEC.  In recent years, the Community Grant has averaged $15,000 and has been awarded at the Annual meeting in June. 

 

We not only grant funds, we grant our time too.  With each Community Grant, the Junior League commits our volunteer hours to the receiving agency. Sometimes an hour of extra hands can mean more than any donation.

For the 2007-2010 years, the JLGEC focus is “Strengthening Families Through Education and Positive Life Choices.”  All agencies that have funding needs that fit our focus area can fill out our Community Grant application and mail to

Our funds are granted in small ways too.  Each member is empowered to give where her heart is through Member Sponsored Grants to non-profit agencies.  Member Sponsored grants can be in any amount up to $1,000 and are awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year.  Traditionally, the JLGEC annually awards a total of $5,000 in Member Sponsored grants.

 

 SCHOLARSHIP

In striving to build the community, we also offer a scholarship in support of area youth.  Each year, the JLGEC awards an area female Senior looking to continue her education a scholarship in the amount of $2,500.
